Data Locations

Configuration module > File menu > Data Locations

The Data Locations window opens.

Click Setup Stores button to review the database information.

Click the Folder Locations buttons to change the location.

WARNING! As a general rule, do not change the data locations that were established during installation. Changing data location information could render R.O. Writer inoperable.

Data Path Locations

You set the default location for several functions throughout R.O. Writer.

Database

The Database field shows the location of the database. Click the Setup Stores button to review the database connection information.

NOTE: The Setup Stores window also allows you to set up multiple stores, each connected to a different database.

Access Data Path

The Access Data Path is the location on the current machine where the following information is stored:

Back Up Shared Data Files In

The Back Up Shared Data Files In field shows the location where local file backups are stored. Zip files are saved to this location whether the local file back is run from

You can choose any one of the following locations:

To select a new location, complete these steps:

  1. Open Data Locations in Configuration.
  2. Click the Folder Location button for the Back Up Shared Data Files In field.
  3. Navigate to the new location.
  4. Select the folder.
  5. Click OK to save the selection. The folder path appears in the field.
  6. Click OK on the Data Locations window to save the change.

Setup Stores

Click the Setup Stores button to edit the database connection information.

This information is entered and saved when R.O. Writer is installed or upgraded.

NOTE: You can enter multiple databases on the Setup Stores window.

Database Connection Information

The database connection information is entered when R.O. Writer is installed (or upgraded) and rarely changes. You would most likely open the Setup Stores window to review this information.

Test Connection Button

Click the Test Connection button to verify that the connection information is correct and can connect to the database. The Save button remains disabled until the Test Connection button is clicked and the connection is successful.

When changing database connection information, you always click the Test Connection button to verify that you can connect to the database first. Then, you click Save to save the new store.

Shop Header Information

The shop header from your software license prints at the top of all documents automatically. You can add a custom advertising line to the shop header in General Options (Configuration > File menu > General Options > Use Custom Advertising Line).

If you do not see the your shop header information below "This software is licensed to:" on the Setup Stores window, click the Import License button. The shop header information is imported from your license and appears on the window.

NOTE: If you need to change your shop header, please contact the R.O. Writer Sales team to update your license.

Import License Button

Click the Import Licenses button to import and display the license information for the selected database. This is the shop header information.

The shop header appears at the top of printed quotes, estimates, repair orders, work orders, customer invoices, receipts and reports automatically.

If you are connected to multiple databases on the Setup Stores window, you need to import the license from each database for each store.

Setup Stores for the Central Office Server

On the Central Office server machine, an Ignore This Store in Central Office setting appears in Setup Stores.

This setting allows the Central Office server and store to point to the store database. As a result, when Ignore This Store is checked for a store, that store is removed from Central Office configuration. However, Central Office will continue to export the store’s data for all configured databases.
