Select a Viscosity When None is Recommended

Epicor returns the recommended viscosities for the vehicle on the Smart Oil tab. However, sometimes Epicor does not return a viscosity, or you need to select another viscosity than the one recommended.

The Smart Oil tab provides you with the ability to select a viscosity

To Select a Viscosity When no Viscosity is Available

On the Smart Oil tab, sometimes Epicor does not return a viscosity for the vehicle. This usually happens for newer vehicles or if your shop hasn’t updated the Epicor makes and models in a while.

Complete these steps:

  1. On an open ticket, click the Smart Oil toolbar button. Smart eCat opens to the Smart Oil tab.
  2. When Epicor has no recommendations for the vehicle. The specification sections are empty.
  3. The Epicor Viscosities Linked to Parts window appears over the Smart Oil tab automatically.
Only oil viscosities mapped to oil parts in R.O. Writer Configuration appear on this window.

The Smart Oil tab with no specs and the mapped viscosity window open.

  4. Select the viscosity you want to use for the vehicle.
    • This part of the mapped viscosity is used for the Smart Oil job selected – even if that Smart Oil job does not have that viscosity mapped.
  5. Type in the Engine Oil Capacity.

    The capacity typed in.

  6. Click OK. The matching Smart Oil jobs appear in the list.
  7. Select the Smart Oil job and click the Go! button.

The job selected and circled and the Go button circled.

  8. From here, the Smart Oil workflow is the same as the standard process.
    • When the Posted Parts and Labor tab appears, the oil part you selected on the Epicor Viscosities window appears in the Local Inventory section.
  9. Post the Smart Oil job to the open ticket. The selected part and capacity are posted to the open ticket.
