Reports and Forms Import During Launch
R.O. Writer imports only the report files in the Term folder. For details, click the following link: Reports and Forms Imported Into the Database.
Import Process
R.O. Writer runs through the same report import process every time you launch R.O. Writer. A progress bar appears in the upper right corner to show the progress of the import.
The import process is as follows:
-
R.O. Writer R.O. Writer validates the report files.
- While validating, R.O. Writer creates a local cache of the report files from the Term folder.
- R.O. Writer checks the cache against the database to see if
- A report file with that name already exists in the database.
- If the report file is a system report or a custom report.
-
R.O. Writer imports the reports into the database.
- As each report file is added to the database, that report file is deleted from the Term folder.
-
R.O. Writer syncs the database with the local cache created in Step 1.
NOTE: If new custom forms need to be added, you should use the Custom Reports utility in the Form Types Configuration setting.
Report Content
The content and format of your reports and forms remain the same after the import process is complete. Your reports and forms will continue to run as they always have in R.O. Writer. The only difference is that R.O. Writer will look for the report files in the database instead of the local machine.
For example,
-
When you click Reporting > Sales Reports, you will see the same list of reports from previous versions of R.O. Writer.
-
When you click Configuration > File menu > Form types, you will see the same form type selected in each category.
