Configuring a Generic Tire Supplier in R.O. Writer

To configure in generic tire supplier in R.O. Writer, you must complete the following steps: 

Step 1 - Contact the Supplier for Your Connection Credentials

Step 2 - Check Your License for the Generic Tire Supplier Options

Step 3 - Create the Supplier in R.O. Writer

Step 4 - Configure the Interface for the Supplier

Step 5 - Set the Order of the New Supplier Link in Tire Quote

Step 1 - Contact the Supplier for Your Connection Credentials

You can use the generic interface with the following suppliers:

NOTE: You must contact the supplier directly to obtain your username and password. The service URLs listed above were provided to R.O. Writer in advance. When you contact the supplier, you must confirm that you can use the service URL for your shop. Only use the URL that the supplier confirms and approves.

Step 2 - Check Your License for the Generic Tire Supplier Options

The ability to connect to generic tire suppliers is a licensed feature. Therefore, you need to verify that the ability to add generic tire suppliers is included in your license.

To Check Your License

Complete these steps:

  1. On the R.O. Writer main window, click Help menu > Licensing System. The R.O. Writer License System window opens.
  2. Click the Display License Details button. The R.O. Writer License System window opens.
  3. The Licensed Options section shows all licensed features included in your license.
  1. If the Licensed Options section includes one of the following entries, you can configure an interface to a generic tire supplier:
    • Display 1 Generic Tire Supplier
    • Display 3 Generic Tire Suppliers
    • Display 5 Generic Tire Suppliers

If you do not see any of these entries in the Licensed Options section, you are not licensed to add a generic tire supplier. Please email R.O. Writer Support at support@rowriter.com and request license approval to add tire suppliers.

Step 3 - Create the Supplier in R.O. Writer

You create suppliers in the R.O. Writer Configuration.

NOTE: If the supplier already exists, you do not need to create a new one. Instead, you can continue to Step 4 to add an interface to the existing supplier.

Complete these steps:

  1. Open R.O. Writer Configuration The Configuration icon.
  2. Click Configuration menu > Parts > Suppliers. The Suppliers window opens.
  3. Click the Add button at the bottom of the window. The supplier fields activate and the Add button deactivates.

    NOTE: The Supplier Interfaces section does not activate until the supplier is saved.

  4. Type in the Supplier Code and Supplier name. (Required)

    The Supplier Code and Name entered.

    In Tire Quote, the supplier code identifies the supplier in the link below the search results and at the beginning of the SM and SC codes.

  5. Enter the information into the following sections: (Optional)
  6. Click Save. The fields clear and deactivate except for the Supplier dropdown list.

  7. You can now configure the interface for the supplier.

Step 4 - Configure the Interface for the Supplier

Before you can configure the interface for the supplier, you must obtain your account and connection credentials from the supplier, including:

To Configure the Supplier Interface

Complete these steps:

  1. In the Supplier dropdown list, select the supplier you created in Step 1. The Supplier Interfaces section activates.
  2. In the Supplier Interfaces section, click the Add button.

  3. The Supplier Interface window opens.

    The Supplier Name is the name of the supplier from the first window and cannot be changed here.

  4. In the Supplier Interface dropdown list, select ROW Tire Supplier (Generic).
  5. In the Interface Name field, type in the name of the supplier interface.
  6. Enter the Connection Information in the bottom half of the window (see the table below).

    NOTE: You must obtain the User Name, Password, and Service URL from the tire supplier.

  7. Click Save. You are returned to the Suppliers window where the Interface Name appears in the Supplier Interfaces section.

  8. Click Save on the main Supplier window. The supplier interface is configured.

Connection Information for Generic Tire Suppliers

When you select ROW Tire Supplier (Generic) in the Supplier Interface dropdown list, the Connection Information appears on the window.

NOTE: You must obtain the User Name, Password, and Service URL from the tire supplier.

The following table describes the connection information for generic tire suppliers.
Information Description

User Name

Type in the username for your account. The tire supplier must provide you with this information.

Password

Type in the password for your account. The tire supplier must provide you with this information.

Passwords are encrypted automatically.

Service URL

Type in the URL provided to you by the tire supplier.

The tire supplier must provide you with this information. R.O. Writer cannot provide you with this information.

The Service URL is the public URL of the web service configured for the supplier in the Generic Tire Interface. Tire Quote accesses this URL and logs into your account using the credentials entered in the User Name and Password fields.

Default Department

This dropdown list contains all parts departments. Select the parts department that includes the parts from this supplier.

NOTE: The parts department you select must be in the tire group to be searched in Tire Quote.

Use Supplier Pricing

Check to bypass all pricing configured for parts in R.O. Writer. The pricing you will see in Tire Quote matches the pricing for your account with the supplier.

Allow Backorders
(0 Qty Available)

Some suppliers allow you to order tires that are not currently available. By default, R.O. Writer does not allow you to order tires on backorder.

If the supplier allows you to order tires that are not available, check Allow Backorders. When checked, you can order tires with zero availability from this supplier in Smart eOrder.

Post Orders to
Accounts Payable

Check to be prompted to post orders before ordering:

  • If you are using Accounts Payable, R.O. Writer prompts you to post before you order parts from this supplier in Smart eOrder.
  • If you are not using Accounts Payable, a confirmation number is posted to the Invoice # field on the Edit Parts window for each part ordered.

NOTE: This setting overrides the global Create A.P. Transaction When Posting P.O. setting for the supplier.

Step 5 - Set the Order of the New Supplier Link in Tire Quote

You need to determine where the new supplier’s link should appear in the link row below the search results.

Complete these steps:

  1. Open Tire Quote immediately after completing the new supplier interface. Tire Quote prompts you to determine the position of the new supplier’s link.

  2. Click OK to close the prompt.
  3. Use the up and down arrows to determine the order of the links below the search results.
  4. Click Update to save your changes. A prompt appears letting you know that Tire Quote needs to refresh.

  5. Click OK. Tire Quote refreshes. (This clears any search results or selections.)
  6. Perform a quick search.
  7. When the search results appear, the supplier links below the list appear in the new order.
