Local File Backup in R.O. Tray

The local backup is a zip file of specific files stored in the local machine.

NOTE: The zip file does not include the database. Database backups are handled by the Database Backup and Restore utility in R.O. Writer Server.

Local Backup Zip File

The default location of the backup zip file is:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Progressive Automotive Systems, LLC\ROWriter\Backup

This location is set in the Back Up Shared Data Files In data path in Data Locations.

Format of the Zip File Backup

The zip files are named in the following format: "backup-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS."

The time is in military time.

You can back up the files on the local machine in two locations:

To Set the Location for Backup Files

You can choose any one of the following locations:

Complete these steps:

  1. Open Data Locations in Configuration.
  2. Click the Folder Location button for the Back Up Shared Data Files In field.
  3. Navigate to the new location.
  4. Select the folder.
  5. Click OK to save the selection. The folder path appears in the field.
  6. Click OK on the Data Locations window to save the change.

To Back up Local Files in R.O. Tray

Complete these steps:

  1. Open R.O. Tray.
  2. Click the wrench button.
  3. The Support Utilities window opens.

  4. Click the File Backup/Restore button.
  5. The Backup Local Files window opens.
  6. The white box under Local Data Files displays a list of the local backup files that have already been created.

  7. Click the Backup button.

    • The rest of R.O. Writer closes. Only the Backup Local Files window remains open.
    • A progress bar appears as the zip file is created.
  8. A prompt appears notifying you when the backup is complete. Click OK on the prompt.
  9. The new zip file appears in the Local Data File box.

WARNING! There is no restore functionality for local backup files. Please contact R.O. Writer Support to restore local backup files.

Reviewing Database Backups

The Main Database Backups section of the Backup Local Files window displays a list of all database backups for the database your workstation is connected to in Data Locations.

This list is read-only. You cannot open these files or make any changes.
