Support Tools

The Database Utilities were developed to perform some functions that may not be available in other modules of R.O. Writer, generally associated with resolving problems that might have occurred. These utilities should only be used when directed to do so by an R.O. Writer support person.

Send Data File to Support

This button creates a backup of your database, compresses it, then uploads it to the Support FTP site for analysis.

Complete these steps:

  1. On the Support Tools window, click the Send Data File to Support button.

  1. R.O. Writer closes and the following warning appears.

  1. Make sure all users in your shop are not using R.O. Writer and click OK.
  2. R.O. Writer starts creating a backup of your data.

  1. When the backup is complete, R.O. Writer starts creating a compressed version of your database.

  1. Uploads the compressed version of your database to the Support FTP site for analysis.

Depending on the speed of your internet connection, this could take a while but you can continue working in R.O. Writer while it finishes sending.

Backup/Restore Data

All backups performed through end of day or from here will display and show the data and time and the status. You can select the backup you wish to restore, delete, or send to support. For more backup tips, see Backup Tips.

To Backup Data

Complete these steps:

  1. Click Start > Programs > R.O. Writer > Support Tools.

  1. Click the Backup button. The Backups window opens displaying a list of the most recent backups.

  1. Click the Backup button. The backup starts.

  1. When the backup is complete, it is compressed.
  2. R.O. Writer notifies you that users can go back into R.O. Writer.

  1. The backed up data appears in the list as "Verified Good".

The compressed data file is saved to the default location, which is set in the Configuration module in File menu > Data Locations> Back Up Shared Data Files In field.

To Restore Data

All users should be out of R.O. Writer.

Complete these steps:

  1. On the Backups window, click the Restore button. A prompt appears asking you to confirm the restore.

  1. Click Yes. R.O. Writer starts restoring the database.
  2. R.O. Writer notifies you when the restoration is complete.

To Delete Old Backups

You can also delete old backups in this screen as well.

Complete these steps:

  1. On the Backups window, select the data backup and click the Delete button.

  2. Click Yes and the data backup is deleted from the list.

Database Utility

Runs the database utility for R.O. Writer.

Database Update

Updates your database to the current version.

Clean out Backups

Deletes all but the last four backups.

Update License

If you received a new license file to add or remove a module or edit your shop header, you can update it here. If you use multiple databases, this should be done in Configuration (Data Locations) for each database.

Create Zip File

This works similarly to other file compression programs to compress files.
