Backup Tips
Computers are our friends until we don’t have a current backup. Your computer is just a piece of hardware and can and will break just like a car. To prevent data loss, please back up your database daily.
We recommend doing three sets of backups:
- One for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
- One for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
- One off the premises in case of fire or theft
This way, if one set is bad, you can restore one of them and need to recreate only two days of information.
You can do backups several ways:
End of Day Method
Run the backup when you are prompted to do so during End of Day Processing in the Reporting module.
Click Yes to create the backup file.
Support Tools Method
Complete these steps:
- Click Start > Programs > R.O. Writer > Support Tools.
- Click the Backup button. The Backups window opens displaying a list of the most recent backups.
- Click the Backup button. The backup starts.
- When the backup is complete, it is compressed.
- R.O. Writer notifies you that users can go back into R.O. Writer.
- The backed up data appears in the list as "Verified Good".
The compressed data file is saved to the default location, which is set in the Configuration module in File menu > Data Locations> Back Up Shared Data Files In field.
Ad Hoc Method
If you wish to set up a separate backup using another program or method, it is recommended to backup the following:
In the Shared data file location as seen above, you will want to ensure that the MDB file is backed up and in the same location, if you use the Marketing/Follow-up module, all the marketing letter files ending in .CFG and row. If you are using the Advanced Word Processor, back up all the letter files ending in .RTF and .XML.
