Tire Information Download

The tire information download processes inventory updates to tire parts such as new pricing, new parts, new part numbers, etc. When you run the tire information download, R.O. Writer is updated with the information from the supplier.

Configuring the Tire Information Download

You configure the tire information download settings for each supplier in the parts department group designated as the tire group.

In the tire group, you determine:

Repeat the following configuration process for each tire supplier: 

NOTE: You can set up the tire information download for one machine.

Step 1 - Access the Tire Information Download Settings

You access the tire information download settings in the parts department group designated as the tire group.

Complete these steps:

  1. Open R.O. Writer Configuration The Configuration icon.
  2. Select the Configuration menu > Parts > Parts Department Groups.
  3. Select the tire group from the dropdown list.
    (When you have selected the tire group, the Tire Group box appears checked and disabled.)

  4. Click the Setup File Download button. The Tire Information Download configuration window opens.

Step 2 - Enter the Required Tire Information Download Settings

This step describes the required settings for an FTP and local file.

Complete these steps:

  1. To set up the tire supplier, click the Assign button. A popup window appears where you select the supplier.

    On the Tire Information Download window, you must set up one tire supplier to activate the options on the rest of the window.

  2. Select the Supplier. The supplier appears in the Tire Supplier dropdown list and “Tires.txt” appears in the File Names to Process section.

  3. Check Add New Part?.

    This makes sure that a new part is created in R.O. Writer Inventory for each new part.

  4. Choose the Stock Status of new parts that are added to Inventory: Non-Stock, Stock, or Consigned.
  5. Check Apply Department Group Fees to apply the fee of the tire group to all parts - both created and updated.

    Like the Add New Part? setting, this setting applies to all tires in all tire information files you process in Tire Quote.

  6. Click Add to save your setup. The supplier now appears in the Tire Supplier dropdown list.
  7. Click Cancel to close the Tire Information Download.
  8. Click Save on the Parts Department Group window to save the changes to the tire group.

Option 1 - Set Up an FTP Connection

After you have entered the required settings, you can choose to set up an FTP connection to the one supplier you create. You would choose to use an FTP connection if

Complete these steps:

  1. On the Tire Information Download window, select the supplier in the Tire Supplier dropdown list.
  2. Click the FTP Setup button. The FTP Setup window opens.

  3. Enter the correct connection information.
  4. Click OK on the FTP Setup window to save the connection.
  5. Click Save on the Tire Information Download window to save your settings.
  6. Click Cancel on the Tire Information Download window to close the window.
  7. Click Save on the Parts Department Group window to save the changes to the tire group.

Option 2 - Set Up a Local File

You would choose to set up a local file if you work with one supplier who always sends a tire information file with the same name.

Work with your supplier to obtain the tire information file. Save the file on your computer’s hard drive.

Complete these steps:

  1. On the Tire Information Download window, in the File Name to Process section, check Local File. A Browse button appears.

  2. Click the Browse button.
  3. Navigate to the location where you store the tire information text file.
  4. Select the file in the right pane.
  5. Click OK.

    The file name entered here is the default file selected when you run the tire download process in Tire Quote. You can choose a different file at the time you run the tire information download process.

  7. Click Save on the Tire Information Download window to save your settings.

  8. Click Cancel on the Tire Information Download window to close the window.
  9. Click Save on the Parts Department Group window to save the changes to the tire group.

To Edit the Tire Download Setting for an Existing Supplier

After you set up a supplier once, you can edit the connection by opening the tire group and clicking the Setup File Download button. Instead of clicking the Assign button, select the Tire Supplier dropdown list.

Running the Tire Information Download in Tire Quote

The download process updates the tire information, including pricing.

To Run the Tire Information Download

Complete these steps:

  1. Open Tire Quote as a standalone application; that is, with no ticket window open.
    (R.O. Writer recommends that you open Tire Quote without a ticket open; however, it does not impact the ticket if you run the tire download while that ticket is open.)
  2. In Tire Quote, click the Tire Information Download menu.

  3. Tire Quote accesses the tire information download settings in Configuration.
  4. The Tire Info Update window opens.

    • The title bar displays the name of the tire supplier.
    • The box at the top displays the download settings.

  5. If you want to process a specific text file, click the Browse button and navigate to a specific location.

    • Select the file and click Open.
    • The selected file appears in the File Name to Process field at the top of the window.

  6. Check the Add New Department box to make sure that new departments in the file are added to R.O. Writer.

    If this option is not checked, the new parts are added but the departments are now, which means

  7. Click the Download button. The downloading and parsing process begins.

    • Text appears above the progress bar to describe what is happening during the download.
  8. If new departments were added as a result of the download, a window appears that displays the parts departments that were just added.
    • Click OK to open the list in Notepad where you can save the list.
    • Click the red X to close the window without viewing the list of new departments.
  9. A log file is created and stored in the C:\ROWriterData\TireDownloadInfo folder.
  10. The Tire Information Download informs you that the tire information download was successful just above the progress bar.

  11. Click Exit to close the tire information download.
