Adding a Backup Copy to All Transmissions
The Central Office Client Setup Window and Central Office Server Setup Window enable you to set a backup copy location for all transmissions.
When a backup path is entered, a backup of each data payload is saved to that location after each transmission is complete.
R.O. Writer strongly recommends that you have a backup copy location on both the server and the store. If there is a failure during transmission, the backup copy file can help you diagnose what went wrong. As a result, you can fix the problem in your system and re-transmit Central Office.
Backup Copy Location
By default, the Backup Path field contains the following location:
C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Progressive Automotive Systems, LLC\R.O. Writer\Central Office
To Enter a Custom Location
To enter another location in the Backup Path field, you can
-
Type in the location
-
Copy and paste in the location
-
Click the Browse button to navigate to and select a location in Windows
NOTE: If you save your settings when the Backup Path field is blank, Central Office will not create a backup copy of the transmission. This is not recommended.
Backup Copy File
The backup file is a .zip file that contains the content of the most recent transmission. The .zip file contains
-
The .dat and .manifest files.
-
The data that was transmitted since the last time Central Office transmitted from the server or the store - not the entire database.
A zip file is created for every transmission with a unique timestamp.
NOTE: The data included in the .zip file should be used only to review the data sent in a transmission. You cannot process the contents of the. zip file through Central Office as a way to “re-transmit” the same data.
