Printer Locations

Configuration module > File Menu > Printer Locations

In this Configuration setting, you determine the default printer when

If your shop only has one computer running R.O. Writer, then the printer will more than likely be attached to that computer. However, if there are multiple computers, and especially if there is a file server, there may be multiple printers. It may be desirable to designate a printer for a specific task. Let’s give a scenario where this might be used.

Suppose that a shop has a service counter to greet customers when they first come in. A service writer might begin with an estimate for the customer, print the estimate, and give it to the customer for authorization. It would be desirable to have a printer at the service counter, and designate it for the estimates. When the estimate has been converted to a repair order, a work order might be printed for the technician to do the work.

With a printer located in the shop, the shop supervisor, or the technician could print the work order at their location, reducing trips to the front counter. When the work is completed, and the customer arrives to pay, perhaps they are directed to accounting, or someone designated to collect payments. This would be the desired location to print the final repair order. And finally, the owner may want all reports to be printed in a secure location, such as his office.

To Choose a Default Printer

To set a default printer for an option, select the appropriate printer from the dropdown list, and click the OK button.

Oil Stickers

R.O. Writer now has the functionality to be able to print stickers for windshields to show when the next oil change should occur. In order to print Oil stickers you will need a label printer. R.O. Writer recommends the following model: Zebra TLP 2824.

Before attempting to configure R.O. Writer, install your label printer and load the software the manufacturer provided.

From the dropdown to the right of "Oil Sticker": select the appropriate printer installed and left click OK. See Oil Sticker for more information on setting up this feature.
