Tracking Time
R.O. Writer provides several ways technicians and employees can track their time for more accurate scheduling and reporting.
Types of Clocks
There are two clocks used to track time:
- The Employee Time Clock tracks employee hours, mostly for payroll purposes.
- The Labor Time Clock tracks the amount of time it takes to complete each job.
Configuring Employees and Technicians
The time tracking tools in R.O. Writer sync with the clock on your computer automatically.
Employees
Employees work in your shop but may not perform labor on vehicles. Employee time is most often tracked for payroll. Employees are included in the Employee Time Clock and Edit Time Cards.
Employees are configured in the Configuration > Configuration menu > Labor > Employees. You need to configure employees and technicians so that they show up in the Time Clock list.
Technicians
Technicians are employees who also work on vehicles. You track technician time in the Employee Time Clock and the Labor Time Clock.
Technicians are configured in the Configuration > Configuration menu > Labor > Technicians. You must select Include in Employees List so that the technician appears in the Employee Time Clock.
You also track technician time for scheduling and labor time:
- In Scheduler, select the Technician to schedule their time for customer appointments.
- On the Edit Labor window for a posted job, select the Technician to track his or her time on that job using the Labor Time Clock.
