Customer and Vehicle History
It is important to understand the relationship between customers, vehicles, repair orders, and parts and labor.
- A customer can have no vehicles assigned but a vehicle must always be assigned to a customer.
- Vehicles can be transferred from one customer to another.
- It is important to maintain the integrity of the vehicle information such as make, model, and model year, and the vehicle identification number (VIN). This information should be changed only to make corrections.
- As estimates and repair orders are created, they are assigned to a specific vehicle and always belongs to that vehicle.
- Repair history is tied to the vehicle first, customer second. If a customer's vehicle is deleted, the repair history of that vehicle is deleted with it even if the customer remains in the system.
- If a customer no longer has a vehicle, keep the old vehicle and add the new one. Do NOT change the existing vehicle information. If you do, vehicle statistics and repair information become incorrect on reports.
